Joy Isn’t Found in Circumstances
Read Habakkuk 3:17–18
(17) Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines… (18) yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior. Habakkuk 3:17–18
—
Habakkuk paints a bleak picture.
No figs.
No grapes.
No sheep.
No cattle.
Everything is falling apart.
Yet he says,
“I will rejoice in the Lord.”
Notice what he doesn’t say.
He doesn’t rejoice because life is easy.
He rejoices because God hasn’t changed.
That’s the difference.
Your circumstances will change.
God never will.
And when your joy is rooted in Him instead of your situation, your hope becomes remarkably steady.
—
Today’s Question:
Has my joy become too dependent on my circumstances?
Today’s Challenge:
List three things about God’s character that are true today regardless of your circumstances.
Today’s Prayer:
“Father, teach me to find my joy in You instead of in what is happening around me.”
—
