Read Zephaniah 3:15–17

—

The people of Judah deserved judgment.

So do we.

That's the reality of sin.

But hundreds of years after Zephaniah delivered this message...

Jesus came.  
He took our place.  
He received the judgment we deserved.

So we could receive the grace we never could have earned.

That's why, for everyone who trusts in Jesus, judgment is no longer the final word.

Grace is.  
Hope is.  
Joy is.

Because Jesus changed the ending.

So, if you've placed your faith in Him...

God's final word over your life isn't condemnation.

It's welcome.

Am I living like someone who has been rescued by God's grace?

Today's Challenge:  
Take a few moments today to thank Jesus for taking your place so you could become part of God's family.

This may be one of the most surprising verses in the entire Bible.

God delights in His people.  
He rejoices over them.  
He sings over them.

Let's be honest.

Many of us assume God merely tolerates us.

That He's constantly frustrated.  
Constantly disappointed.  
Constantly shaking His head.

But that's not the picture Zephaniah paints.

Because of His grace...

God delights in His children.

Not because we've earned it.

But because that's the kind of Father He is.

Do I believe God delights in me, or do I secretly think He merely puts up with me?

Today's Challenge:  
Spend time today thanking God not just for what He gives you, but for the relationship you have with Him through Jesus.

One of the greatest promises in this passage is simple:

"The Lord your God is with you."

Sometimes we assume God is distant.  
Watching from heaven.  
Checking in occasionally.

But that's not the picture Zephaniah gives.

God isn't simply aware of your situation.

He's with you in it.

He's with you in the doctor's office.  
With you in the difficult conversation.  
With you in the waiting.  
With you in the uncertainty.

You are never alone.

God is near.

Where do I need to become more aware of God's presence today?

Today's Challenge:  
Several times today, pause and remind yourself: "God is with me right now."

“Lord, thank You for never leaving me alone. Help me live today with a greater awareness of Your presence.”

God tells His people…

"Do not fear."

Not because there was nothing to fear.

But because He was with them.

Fear has a way of talking over God.

It whispers…

"It's over"  
"You'll never recover"  
"God is finished with you"

But God's voice says something different…

"I am with you."

That's why faith isn't pretending life is easy.

Faith is choosing to believe that God's promises are louder than your fears.

What fear has been speaking the loudest in my life lately?

Today's Challenge:  
When fear begins talking today, answer it with one promise from God's Word.

“Jesus, help Your voice become louder than my fears. Teach me to trust Your promises more than my emotions.”

Read Zephaniah 3:14–15

For three chapters, Zephaniah has been delivering hard news.

Judgment.  
Sin.  
Consequences.

It feels like the story can only end one way.

Then suddenly...

Everything changes.

God tells His people to sing.  
To shout.  
To rejoice.

Not because nothing bad was going to happen.

But because judgment wasn't going to be the final chapter.

And that's an important reminder for us too.

Just because you're in a difficult chapter doesn't mean you're at the end of the story.

God is still writing.

Where have I been assuming my story is over when God may still be writing it?

Today's Challenge:  
Think about a difficult season you've walked through. Thank God for the ways He has already been faithful…even if you're still waiting on the ending.

Today's Prayer:  
“Father, help me trust You even when I can't yet see how You're going to finish the story.”

Read Malachi 1:14

(14) “For I am a great King,” says the Lord Almighty, “and my name is to be feared among the nations.” Malachi 1:14

God reminds His people of one simple truth.

"I am a great King."

They had forgotten who He was.

And that's why they settled for less.

The same thing can happen to us.

When our view of God gets smaller...

Our worship gets smaller.  
Our obedience gets smaller.  
Our passion gets smaller.

But then we look at Jesus.

The King who stepped off His throne.  
The King who gave His life.  
The King who rose again.

And suddenly...

Wonder returns.

Never get over the gospel.

Never get over grace.

Never get over Jesus.

Because He has never gotten over you.

What would it look like for me to live today with a greater awareness of who Jesus really is?

Today's Challenge:
Spend time today thanking Jesus not only for what He has done, but for who He is…the Great King who gave His life for you.

Today's Prayer:
“Jesus, thank You for giving Your best for me. Help me never lose my awe of You and never settle for giving You anything less than my best.”

Read Malachi 1:12–13

(13) “And you say, ‘What a burden!’ and you sniff at it contemptuously,” says the Lord Almighty. Malachi 1:13

The people actually said,

"What a burden."

Can you imagine?

The opportunity to worship God...

And they saw it as an inconvenience.

Unfortunately, that mindset can sneak into our lives too.

"I guess we have to go to church."

"I guess I should read my Bible."

"I guess I need to pray."

Somewhere along the way...

An opportunity became an obligation.

But when you remember who God is...

Worship stops feeling like something you have to do.

It becomes something you get to do.

Do I see spending time with God as an obligation or an opportunity?

Today's Challenge:
The next time you pray or worship, intentionally replace "I have to" with "I get to."

“Father, thank You for inviting me into Your presence. Help me never lose the joy of being with You.”

Read Malachi 1:10

*(10) “Oh, that one of you would shut the temple doors, so that you would not light useless fires on my altar!”* Malachi 1:10

One of the strongest statements in this passage is when God says He'd rather shut the Temple down.

Why?

Because worship had become a performance.

People were present.

But their hearts weren't.

That should stop every one of us.

Because it's possible to attend church...

Sing the songs...

Read your Bible...

Even pray...

And still be far from God.

God has never been impressed by empty religion.

He wants your heart.

Always has.

Always will.

Am I simply going through the motions, or am I genuinely worshipping God?

Today's Challenge:
Before you pray or read Scripture today, stop for a moment and remind yourself who you're about to meet with.

Today's Prayer: 
“Lord, don't let my relationship with You become routine. Give me a heart that genuinely delights in worshipping You.”

(8) “When you offer blind animals for sacrifice, is that not wrong? When you sacrifice lame or diseased animals, is that not wrong?” Malachi 1:8

The people weren't bringing God nothing.

They were bringing Him something.

The problem was...

It wasn't their best.

They gave God what nobody else wanted.

The leftovers.

The blind sheep.  
The lame sheep.  
The diseased sheep.

But before we're too hard on them...

Maybe we should ask ourselves a question.

What do we tend to give God?

Our first and best?

Or whatever time and energy we have left?

Because God isn't after leftovers.

He's worthy of our best.

Have I been giving God my first and best, or whatever happens to be left?

Today's Challenge:
Choose one area today…your time, attention, generosity, or obedience…and intentionally give God your best instead of your leftovers.

Today's Prayer:
“Jesus, You've given Your very best for me. Help me respond by giving my best back to You.”

(6) “A son honors his father, and a slave his master. If I am a father, where is the honor due me?” Malachi 1:6

The people in Malachi's day hadn't stopped believing in God.

They hadn't stopped going to the Temple.
They hadn't stopped worshipping.

They had just stopped being amazed by Him.

And honestly, that's a much more dangerous place to be than we often realize.

Because when God becomes familiar...

He becomes ordinary.

And when He becomes ordinary...

He slowly starts getting whatever time, attention, and affection we have left over.

When was the last time I was genuinely overwhelmed by the greatness of God?

Today's Challenge:
Spend five quiet minutes today simply thanking God for who He is, not just for what He's done.

Today's Prayer:
“Father, restore my awe of You. Help me never become so familiar with You that I stop being amazed by You.”
