Going Through the Motions
Read Isaiah 1:12–15
(15) When you spread out your hands in prayer, I hide my eyes from you; even when you offer many prayers, I am not listening… Isaiah 1:15
—
One of the most uncomfortable truths in this passage is that the people were still showing up.
They were attending worship.
They were praying.
They were participating.
The problem wasn't that they stopped doing religious things.
The problem was that their hearts weren't in it.
They were physically present.
But spiritually absent.
And if we're not careful, the same thing can happen to us.
We can sing songs without thinking about the words.
We can listen to sermons without applying them.
We can attend church while slowly drifting from Jesus.
That's why God isn't just after attendance.
He's after affection.
